Is health measured by how we feel?

Is health measured by how we feel? There has never been a better time to be thankful for good health. With so much uncertainty around the COVID 19 pandemic I wanted to help answer this question. The World Health Organisation predicts that between 5-80% of people infected with COVID-19 have no symptoms at all. Yet many people suffer a high temperature, a persistent cough and fatigue, and sometimes worse. Why is this? Are symptoms a sign of good or bad health? Let’s look at back pain as an example, back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Although it can be very unpleasant and distressing, initially it is there to protect us. The pain is a signal from the brain telling our body to avoid doing anything that may cause further damage. If we didn’t feel it, we wouldn’t know when to stop and let our body repair itself. What about when you are fighting a cold or a virus? A high temperature and cough may make you feel terrible but we know that these are ways our immune system is cleansing our bodies and fighting off the virus! Without these mechanisms we would be in big trouble. Symptoms are a healthy response to your body responding to an injury or threat from infection The definition of health according to most medical textbooks is a ‘state of physical, mental and social wellbeing without merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. In laymen’s terms – health is more than just not being unwell, health is thriving in all of the aspects of your life. Our body’s have the ability...
What does a Chiropractic Adjustment feel like?

What does a Chiropractic Adjustment feel like?

What does a Chiropractic Adjustment feel like? Many of you many be wondering exactly what the a Chiropractic adjustment feels like! The idea of having your neck or back ‘cracked’ can be a daunting thought, especially after watching a barrage of youtube videos! We’ve all done it. If this is you, don’t worry! Many people visit our clinics with these questions and the outcome is always much less scary than the thought of it. To help you understand the feeling of a chiropractic adjustment, first, you need to know what it is and why we do it. Tension and stiffness builds up in the joints of your spine (back and neck) from injury, poor posture, stress and day to day life. This causes the muscles and nerves to become tight and sore. A Chiropractic adjustment releases the tension in these joints by quickly and gently moving your joints past their restriction. Chiropractic Adjustments have been proven to be extremely safe and effective, and the feeling after is usually relief and euphoria So what is the popping noise? Nitrogen (gas) is located in between the joints of your body, the adjustment moves the joint and this changes the pressure of gas inside, causing the clicking or cracking noise you hear. Just like the noise bubblewrap makes when you pop the bubbles. So what does this actually feel like? The adjustment is a very quick process that is over before you know it has happened. The immediate feeling is often very relieving and euphoric. This is because an adjustment causes the body to release endorphins, feel good hormones from the brain,...

Most people find Chiropractic Adjustments do not hurt and that they enjoy the instant relief from an adjustment So what is a chiropractic adjustment? A chiropractic adjustment is a quick, specific thrust delivered by hand to the spinal joints in either your neck, mid/low back or pelvis. Registered UK chiropractors undergo 4-5 years of training in order to learn how to deliver adjustments both safely and with as little discomfort to the patient as possible. We are trained to identify the restricted joints in the spine that may be causing you discomfort – through adjusting the joints we are able to restore movement to the spine and remove pressure from any nerves that may be irritated. How does it feel? During your chiropractic treatment, your chiropractor will talk you through all of the techniques they are using, enabling you to feel relaxed and in control throughout. To the patient, the spinal adjustment is felt simply as a quick thrust which may or may not be accompanied by a ‘clicking’ or ‘popping’ sound. This simply represents air escaping the joint – much like when you pop open a bottle of champagne! So is it painful? The answer is...
